hese diets are not for everyone. If you have a large amount of weight to lose this can be a very good diet for you. It can be used as a short term diet plan and should be done under a doctor’s care if your weight is a major health concern. Very low calorie diet plans call for a very low intake of calories. This may consist of a special formulated replacement substitute, rather than food.There may be some side effects such as tiredness, headaches and diarrhea when first starting this type of diet plan until your body gets accustom to the change in feeding habits. Once you acquire weight loss, which could take up to fourteen or more weeks, you can wean yourself to a chewable food. This has to be slow, as not to upset your body, which has been on a very low calorie diet.

There can be one health risk that requires monitoring by a doctor and that could be gallbladder problems. Doctors will perform blood work ups and monitor your health condition through out a very low calorie diet. It is not recommended for anyone to take on this type of diet plan without supervision.

The very low calorie diet plan has been accredited for weight loss and improving blood pressure and cholesterol. There are also many health reasons not to use this type of diet which can be ulcers, liver problems and cancer to name a few of the health concerns. The very low calorie diet is said to be safe and has positive results, but you still need some form of exercise, even if it is moderate.

The diet works by in “layman terms”, by making the body think it is starving, this slows your metabolism and the body breaks down protein in order for your body to get the needed carbohydrates. The weight you lose in this type of diet is about half fat and half lean tissue. This is the reason to be under a doctor’s care in order to monitor bone mass and lean tissue against fat loss.

Once you return to a low calorie diet plan after a very low calorie diet plan, you need to count calories and only take in the calories that you will be able to burn off. The downfall to a very low calorie diet plan is you are susceptible to weight gain if you don’t watch what you eat after the diet has ended.
